Public Private Partnership

 Rideshare Alternatives

For the Santee-Lynches Region

In response to the rising cost of fuel and the need to improve air quality, the Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments has developed a Public Private Partnership (PPP) that offers to employers in the region a complete suite of transportation options:

  • Public transportation – dynamic bus schedules
  • Ride sharing [carpooling]
  • Vanpooling
  • Bicycle locker management
  • Bonus incentive programs for all modes of alternative transportation
  • Instant Phone Notifications

And more . . .

The partnership is composed of the local public transit agency [Santee Wateree RTA] and two national companies.  The sponsored rideshare program is hosted through a web-based system powered by AlterNetWays company.  The rideshare program / website is tailored for the specific employer at a nominal fee, and can be placed on their website or the public transportation provider as public or private.  The Vanpool option is provided by VPSI with the public transportation services hosted by the public provider in the region.  The rideshare program allows employers to offer alternative transportation options as well as provide incentives to employees who elects to rideshare.  The Public Private Partnership developed in the Santee-Lynches Region can be easily and inexpensively be adapted by other COG or Public Transit Agencies for their respective areas.  Visit the Santee-Lynches COG website – www.santeelynchescog.org and pull up the rideshare link to see how the rideshare web-based system works.  Moreover, for more information on how this Public Private Partnership can be implemented in your respective region, please call Santee-Lynches COG extension 379.

Tri County Link Expands Transit

During an introductory period, September 2 – November 30, 2008, customers can ride FREE on the new commuter routes as well as on all TriCounty Link routes throughout the three counties. If that’s not enough of an incentive, the Link is also sponsoring a drawing that will award a FREE trip to Las Vegas to some lucky customer at the end of the three month period. The more you ride the better your chance to win!

“At TriCounty Link we have not increased fares since our start-up in 1996”, stated Executive Director William Hutto. “We’re pleased to offer free rides during the three-month introductory period and also that the new commuter service will create more transportation options for residents of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties than anywhere else in the state.”

In addition to the new commuter routes, TriCounty Link also introduced a new web site at www.ridetricountylink.com
.

CARTA Fares Well For Year

Good news for the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority means good news for the congested Lowcountry. Not only did CARTA just end its fiscal year with a $17,000 surplus, it also saw ridership increase about 22 percent. In September, ridership topped the next highest September (2001) by more than 52,000.

City Looks To Raise Bus Fare

A new $3.3 million transit budget weighed Monday by Greenville City Council includes a 25-cent fare increase to help cover a shortfall in city revenue estimates that the city's top budget official said were "overly optimistic" when it took over bus operations in April.
